Spaceship Earth is being rethemed to Racist Earth. It will take guests on a journey through the history of racism around the world, focusing on the United States.
The current ride teaches people this history of communication from the stone age to the computer age. Racist Earth will follow a similar structure. In fact, the ride will look the same on the outside and the track will be the same, but it will have a different theme. The new ride will feature prominent historical figures talking about racism in the US like Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, and Robin DiAngelo just to name a few.
According to an official spokesperson, “Racism is an unfortunate part of our history. Luckily, we are in a position to teach tens of millions of Americans about this systemic problem every year. While a ride centered around communication is important, we think a ride that gets people talking about race is far more important and impactful.”
Many people are expecting Racist Earth to be narrated by Matt Walsh, a well-known DEI expert. However, others think it will be narrated by Morgan Freeman. Spaceship Earth will likely close at the end of this year to make way for the retheme.
This will mean another ride in EPCOT is closed at the same time as Test Track, which will impact wait times.
