Breaking news, the Kentucky Derby will move to Disney World next year. The race will take place in EPCOT around World Showcase.

According to an official statement, “We are excited for Disney World to host the Kentucky Derby. This project will be one of our most ambitious yet. Jockeys will race their horses around World Showcase to see who will be crowned the Kentucky Derby champion.”
Moving this iconic horse race to EPCOT actually makes a lot of sense. First off, the current Churchill Downs track is 1 ¼ miles long, and World Showcase is also 1 ¼ miles long. Second, because of the size of EPCOT, they will be able to have double the number of spectators to watch the race in person. This will lead to a significant increase in revenue at the race.
On top of that, EPCOT is an iconic location, and it will make this horse race even more iconic than it already is. This is a really cool move by Disney, and people are excited for a fresh, new location for the Kentucky Derby. However, many people are upset that the race is moving to a different location because Churchill Downs is an iconic site and has hosted the race since it began in 1875.
They are mad that Disney is taking over such an iconic race. This is similar to Disney World hosting The Masters, which we reported on here.
