Walt Disney was a revolutionary figure. He won 48 Academy Awards® and 7 Emmys® in his lifetime. On top of that, he created Disneyland, which has turned into 12 theme parks around the world. Because of him, the Walt Disney Company is now worth $166 billion. Despite the amazing venture this man created, he is now canceled and the Walt Disney Company is being renamed to the Mickey Mouse Company.
The Walt Disney Company loves to create controversy. We saw this with the announcement here that Moana will be the first transgender Disney princess. Many people say this is against Walt’s wishes. In fact, that is the case for many of the things the Disney Company is doing. This is why they are removing all traces of Walt Disney and will rename the company to the Mickey Mouse Company.
Walt Disney is Canceled
A lot of the decisions being made by the leadership at the Walt Disney Company seem to go against what Walt Disney would have done. There has been a large-scale failure to create new and exciting movies, shows, and rides. In fact, it seems that the creativity at Disney has been sacrificed to save money and some would argue to indoctrinate children. These are two things Walt would not have liked.
The reason the Mickey Mouse Company is officially changing its name is to move away from Walt Disney. This is due to his problematic nature. Many people claim Walt Disney was anti-Semitic. Also, he held views that are now seen as outdated and problematic. There are also instances of racist cartoons that Walt Disney worked on himself.
According to official statements, “We are changing the name of the Walt Disney Company to the Mickey Mouse Company. While Walt Disney was an extraordinary man, we acknowledge that he is a problematic figure. Because of this, we will be moving away from Walt Disney and moving forward with a focus on Mickey Mouse. We deeply cherish diversity, equity, and inclusion. These are traits that Walt Disney himself didn’t hold near and dear to his heart. Because of this, we are moving on past Walt Disney.”
The Mickey Mouse Company Controversy
As you might imagine, renaming the Walt Disney Company to the Mickey Mouse Company is causing a lot of controversy. In fact, an internal source confirmed to us that all Walt Disney statues will be removed from the theme parks. This includes the new “Walt The Dumper” statue, which we reported on here. However, it’s not yet clear if Disney+ or the Disney theme park names will also change because of this decision.
Many people are outraged by this. They state that this company wouldn’t exist without Walt Disney. Not only should they not change the name, but they should honor Walt more. Those against this think this is a huge mistake by the company and that it will cost them a lot of money. Many say that even if Walt was controversial, that’s not enough of a reason to remove him from the name of the company he founded.
On the other hand, some people support this. They are happy that the Mickey Mouse Company is finally owning up to past mistakes and that this is the right step for moving forward. They believe that having a company named after a problematic figure like Walt Disney should have been changed a long time ago. Only time will tell if this is a good decision by the newly named Mickey Mouse company to remove Walt Disney from its name.
