Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is becoming a virtual reality ride. This is because the ride sucks.
When boarding, riders will be given a virtual reality headset and headphones to wear. Guests will then see the original Splash Mountain ride in VR, synced up to the ride track.
This is a way to essentially retheme the ride back to Splash Mountain, without needing to redo the entire ride. The VR headsets will make guests feel like they are riding Splash Mountain again.
However, there is more to it. If anyone actually likes Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, they can just remove their VR headset and experience the ride as is. The other good news is that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure animatronics often break down because the ride is terrible.
However, if they break down, they can still operate because guests have the headsets on, so it won’t disrupt the experience. Disney has won in every possible way here. It brings Splash Mountain back, which everyone has been begging for.
But for the people who somehow don’t like that, they can still experience the inferior ride. As you might expect, there is no backlash against this decision.
Everyone is for it, and it is the first time Disney hasn’t done something very controversial in a while. In fact, many people are surprised that they didn’t just retheme it to the Muppets.
