Ron DeSantis is building a prison on Walt Disney World property. This is part of the ongoing battle between Disney and Governor DeSantis.
The new maximum-security prison will house some of the most dangerous inmates in the entire state. In fact, DeSantis will intentionally transfer dangerous inmates just to intimidate Disney. The name will be the Disney World Correctional Institution.
Most prisons are named after the city or area they are in. Since it’s being built on Disney World property, the Florida government has decided to name the prison after the land it’s on. However, many people are wondering if this is even legal.
According to a top attorney, building a prison on Disney World property is legal. Even though Disney World owns the land, the state of Florida can use the unoccupied space for a prison if there is a sufficient need. DeSantis is claiming that there is a need and the state is upholding that claim.
Of course, DeSantis is doing this to put more pressure on Disney and to fight back against them. DeSantis is also pushing Disney to allow prisoners at the new prison to be able to visit Disney World for free on Sundays.
However, many parents object to that saying it will make the parks more dangerous. This new prison has severely increased the tension between the two.
