In the year 2024, Disney/Pixar is taking their boldest approach yet when it comes to new movies. In fact, we already saw this with Frozen 3 where Elsa will marry a woman, and the live-action Tangled where Jada Pinkett-Smith is cast as Rapunzel. However, Disney and Pixar have a line of new movies coming out in 2024 and some of them are extremely controversial and outrageous. Here we break down the most unhinged and outrageous Disney and Pixar films coming out in 2024.
Finding Water
In Finding Water, when Jabari’s dad dies of malaria It’s up to him to find water for his village. During this journey, he transitions from a boy to a man. This will be an uplifting story that touches on the difficulties of living in a third world country. However, it will show that with strength and willpower, anyone can overcome anything.
Chemo
Chemo will be one of Disney’s saddest movies. This will be right up there with Toy Story 5, which we reported on here. In Chemo, Tyler is diagnosed with stage 4 leukemia cancer. During his chemotherapy, he learns the true meaning of life through an out-of-body experience. This is the first movie from Disney that deals with the difficult and complex nature of cancer through a touching story.
Hero to Zero
Hero to Zero follows Don as he goes from being a Wall Street millionaire to being homeless on the streets of New York City. He faces adversity as he learns to panhandle to make money and support his addiction to life. In fact, this is the opposite storyline of most Disney movies. Often characters start from nothing and overcome big challenges. In this movie, Don loses everything and is back to square one. However, it’s expected to be an uplifting movie.
Single Mom
In single mom, when Dad leaves the picture, Brenda is left alone to raise her two kids. She works three jobs to support her family, all while trying to find a sugar daddy. This highlights the difficulty of being a single mom, however, that doesn’t stop Brenda from being the best mom ever. What is fitting about this movie is many Disney and Pixar movies have single parents like Toy Story, Onward, and more. This time, Disney focuses on single parenthood and promotes it.
Abducted
This is one of Disney’s most controversial new movies. Abducted follows the story of two men who pick up random children from school using candy. But their intentions are good. These men aspire to better the lives of children who greatly need it. While their actions initially seem controversial, the audience will warm up to these men throughout the movie as their intentions become clearer.
Two Best Friends
Fitting with the same-sex relationship theme in Frozen 3, Two Best Friends furthers that idea from Disney. Zak and Eric are best friends, who struggle to fall in love with girls in their high school. Along the way, they discover they have feelings for each other, but are afraid to say so. In the end, they find that love was in front of them the whole time. This movie tries to tackle the difficulty of being homosexual in high school.
As you can see, many of these new films from Disney and Pixar are very controversial. Disney is attempting to approach sensitive themes and topics in a family-friendly way. However, sometimes that backfires. Only time will tell if these new movies resonate with Disney fans or fall flat on their face like every other Disney movie in the past 3 years.
