If Disney can do one thing right, it’s putting on a great parade. Even with Disney removing characters from the park, they still have the parades. There is just something magical about Disney parades. The music and amazing floats make them special. Disney World will be even more magical now that Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is moving there in 2024.

Disney likes to take ownership of huge events. For example, Disney became the official sponsor of New Year’s Eve, which we reported on here. Also, Disney will be hosting the Super Bowl, which you can read more about here. Disney is breaking into the pop culture realm again with the announcement that the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is moving to Disney World in 2024.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Going to Disney World

In a shocking twist, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade will take place in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World in 2024. The first Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade was in 1924. In the 99 years of this parade, it has only happened in New York City. However, in 2024, the parade will celebrate its 100th anniversary in a brand-new location. This is bringing out a lot of different emotions. Some are excited, while others couldn’t be more upset.

According to an internal source, Disney is paying Macy’s an undisclosed amount of money to host the parade at Disney World. We can only imagine the agreement was in the hundreds of millions of dollars. So why is Disney paying this much to host the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade? It comes down to marketing and continuing to be a prominent figure in the industry.

Not only will the parade move to Disney World, but it will also now air on ABC. In the entire history of the parade, it has been on NBC. However, Disney doesn’t own Universal. Instead, Disney got the rights to move it to ABC, which they of course own. This is a complete and utter shakeup for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.

Reactions to Macy’s and Disney Collaboration

As you might imagine, this announcement has America divided. First off, many people are concerned that the parade is going to change now that it is at Disney World. However, according to our source, the parade will remain mostly the same. They will continue to have the blowup floats and performances. However, the performances will now happen in front of where Cinderella Castle once was. You can read more about Disney removing the castle here.

On the other hand, Disney fans love this announcement. They know how well Disney executes parades and that this will be just as impressive, if not more. We expect the Disney World Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade to have a strong Disney feel to it and be more magical than it has ever been, likely with the inclusion of many fireworks, which is another Disney strength.

The biggest fear people have is Disney will find a way to ruin it. Many people are still not over Disney announcing that Elsa will marry a woman in Frozen 3. However, it’s pretty hard to ruin a parade. It is possible that Disney would prevent competitors like Shrek and Spongebob from appearing in the parade, which would be one big downfall.
