A George Floyd statue is coming to the Magic Kingdom. However, this statue is creating a lot of controversy.

According to an official statement, “In order to honor the late, great George Floyd, we will be erecting a statue of him at Disney World. It will be a 20-foot-tall statue and stand right next to Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse.”

The quote continues, “This towering statue is designed to honor a good man who died for our country. It will remind guests of the tragedy that occurred and will create moments of reflection in this divided country.”
This announcement has created quite the controversy. First off, many people are excited that Disney is honoring such a great man. They state his murder happened five years ago, and many people have already moved on. This is a way to remind millions of people every year of the tragedy that took place.
Meanwhile, others are very disturbed by this George Floyd statue. They don’t think the Magic Kingdom is a good place for a political piece like that. These people state that there was no connection to George Floyd and Disney World, so it makes no sense why they would put his statue there.
They think the only reason for this is to further polarize the country and make a political statement. There is no set date on when this statue will be built. However, we can only expect there to be protests and potentially vandalism when it is up.
