Oftentimes people think of Disney as a place for kids. There is some truth to that. In fact, Disney is implementing a one-child policy, which we reported on here. However, there are plenty of thrill rides for adults. They even filed a patent for a roller coaster that jumps off the tracks, which we reported on here. For now, Disney is making one of their most thrilling rides even more thrilling. That’s right, Disney officially removed the seat belts on the Tower of Terror.

The Tower of Terror is truly a park icon for Disney. In fact, it had an 8-hour wait on New Year’s Eve. It’s so popular that Disney is allowing guests to book a night there, which we reported on here. That news has many Tower of Terror fans excited. On the other hand, the news that Disney has removed the seat belts from the rides has more people terrified than excited.
Tower of Terror Seat Belts Removed
Almost a year ago we reported that Disney was planning to remove the seat belts from the Tower of Terror. This was initially inspired by the TikTok trend of people loosening their seat belts on Guardians of The Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! However, Disney needed to legally pass safety checks in order to make this happen. At the time it had passed Disney’s internal safety checks, which are stricter than the legal safety checks required.

Finally, Disney has passed the legal safety checks and has officially removed the seat belts on the Tower of Terror. This is intended to make the ride “more authentic and thrilling”. And it will do just that. We were first in line to ride the Tower of Terror without seat belts this morning and it was the best ride ever. You truly experience the feeling of a freefall and get some serious air on the ride.
The other benefit of removing the seat belts on the Tower of Terror is it allows for faster loading and unloading of the ride. Disney no longer needs to worry about seat belt checks before the ride, allowing them to dispatch elevators faster. This decreases the cycle time of the ride, which means more people can ride it in an hour, ultimately making the lines shorter for everyone. Also, fewer people are riding the ride since Disney removed the seat belts, making the line shorter as well.
Reaction to Tower of Terror Without Seat Belts
The reaction to riding Tower of Terror without seat belts has led to mixed reactions. Many people had the same reaction as us, enjoying the ride far more. They said it was the best Disney ride they have ever been on and many of them got back in line immediately. However, on the other hand, some guests felt it was extremely dangerous and the scariest Disney ride ever.

Many people fear that they are going to fly into the ceiling of the elevator and get hurt. They say that riding without a seat belt is extremely dangerous and something they will never do again, But there is some good news. Due to feedback, Disney will offer seat belts as an option if they want it. Prior to boarding, anyone who wants a seat belt for the ride can ask for it. They will load with it and click it in place. This allows people to still enjoy the ride, but not worry about dying. There is a different Disney ride that will kill you.
The solution of Disney providing seat belts to those who want it seems to be a great middle ground. This allows people to enjoy the ride without a seat belt if they want, or feel more safe with one if they need it. It will be interesting to see how many people forgo their seat belts on this ride. So far, it’s been mostly a positive experience for Tower of Terror riders.
