The Walt Disney Company continues to take a diverse approach to movies. For example, Elsa will marry a woman in Frozen 3. Also, as we reported here, Moana will be the first transgender Disney princess. However, Disney has one blind spot, and it’s different body types. Every Disney princess is thin and attractive. However, Disney is about to break the ceiling with their newly announced movie “Proud”, which stars a new princess that is big and beautiful.

We continue to see Disney fail to address people who are overweight. For example, a few months ago, they added a weight limit of 180 lbs to many of their rides. In fact, this excludes nearly half of all Americans from their rides. However, Disney is finally coming to terms with their questionable choices in the past with the announcement of “Proud”, which highlights the first obese Disney princess.

Princess Felicia in “Proud”

An internal source has confirmed to us the plot line for Proud. When Felicia, voiced by Lizzo, is in middle school, her mother dies. This causes her extreme stress and anxiety. In order to deal with these conditions, Felicia eats and eats. Through high school and college, she puts on significant weight to the point that a doctor diagnoses her as morbidly obese. This causes her to have a mental breakdown and lock herself in her dorm room.

Then, one day while she was eating, a wizard visited her with a special message. He told her that her mom was the princess of a city named Thinseltown and that she was the next in line for the throne. She embarked on a difficult and daring journey to Thinseltown to claim the throne. However, when she arrived, she found out that everyone there was thin and in great shape. She was about to turn around and leave when the wizard encouraged her to be proud of who she is.

Felicia stays in Thinseltown and embraces her size. After all, this is who she is. She is crowned Princess Felicia, but the city doesn’t support this. They form a pitchfork mob and go after her in the castle. However, with all of her strength, she confronts them and shows them how beautiful fat can be. The town realizes how mean they were to her and how judgemental they were. They learned a big lesson that day. Princess Felicia changed the name of the city to Roundtown and many of the people began to embrace the fat life, knowing that they wouldn’t be judged.

Reactions to Disney’s “Proud”

As you might imagine, Disney’s Proud is drawing a lot of reactions. Many people are very supportive of this film, especially Lizzo fans. They say that this will be an incredible movie that shows that all body types are beautiful. Finally, Disney is getting away from the trope that all princesses have to be skinny. Many people are excited to finally see Disney embrace fat culture and show that anyone can be beautiful, no matter their size.

On the other hand, as usual, people disagree with this move by Disney. These folks cite that it promotes an unhealthy lifestyle. They say that most people watching this movie will be children. Proud sends a message to kids that being obese is healthy and okay when in reality it’s not. In fact, some doctors are even advocating that Disney doesn’t make this movie because it might lead to many kids making poor health choices.

Clearly, there are mixed reactions to a movie like this from Disney. It’s worth noting that most of Disney’s recent movie releases were flops. For example, Turning Red, Lightyear, Haunted Mansion, and more. Many people are expecting this to also flop. However, it’s not nearly as bad as the unhinged Disney and Pixar movies coming out in 2024, which we reported on here.
