Carousel of Progress is Getting A Woke Makeover

Carousel of Progress is getting a woke makeover. Here are some of the biggest changes.

In the final scene, Patricia transitions from female to male and goes by Pat. Also, they will celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanza. In the scenes before that, John and Sarah will essentially switch roles. John will be the house husband and Sarah will be the hardworking wife.

All of the scenes will be led and narrated by Sarah following this change. Meanwhile, John will be the one sewing on the porch and painting the rumpus room. This is to focus on women’s empowerment instead of the patriarchy.

There are also plenty of small changes. For example, Patty mentions taking a woman to the Halloween dance in the forties. Also, Jimmy no longer looks at the Little Egypt doing the hoochie coochie because it’s objectifying.

As you might imagine, there is quite a bit of controversy around these changes. Many people are upset that Disney is making these changes to such an iconic ride. They feel that it moves away from reality and is a bad change.

However, others think that this is a great step in the right direction. They see it as a way to rewrite history for the better. The ride will close temporarily as Disney updates all of the scenes, from the turn of the century through the future scene to make them woke.
