Disney is continuing to make bold choices with movies. In fact, here we talk about the most unhinged Disney films coming out in 2024. Chemo and Abducted are by far the wildest ones. Of course, who could forget Woody being buried with Andy when he dies in Toy Story 5, which we reported on here. Now, Disney is making arguably to boldest approach yet by tackling abortion and teen pregnancy with Violet in The Incredibles III.
The Incredibles movie series is all about showing the strength of the family unit. Any time something goes wrong for one of the members, the family is there to support them. This happens when Mr. Incredible is captured on Syndromes Island, when Syndrome babysits Jak Jak, and in Incredibles II, the kids save their parents from Screenslaver. However, the strength of the family unit comes into question when Violet considers an abortion.
Violet’s Pregnancy and Abortion
The Incredibles III picks up after Violet and Tony Rydinger’s first date. They go to the movie and “hang out” after. Weeks later, while fighting crime, Violet starts to not feel well. After being evaluated by a doctor, she learns she is a pregnant teen. Now she and Tony have a deep, dark secret. In fact, they are too scared to tell their parents because of how they might react. Yet, she knows she can’t hide it forever, especially in a supersuit.
After a fight and struggle between the two high school lovers, they decide it’s best to tell the entire Parr family. Initially, the family reacts with anger and disgust. However, they open up to her and want to be the best and most supportive family they can be. However, Violet is scared to have a child, especially with someone who doesn’t have superpowers. This forces her down a dark path.
Violet strongly considers having an abortion. We follow her journey as she learns more about abortions. She works with her loving family and makes the decision that the abortion is the best for everyone involved. While the movie doesn’t show the procedure, we see the outcome. The family struggles with the difficulty of Violet having an abortion but is able to stay strong together. They are able to fight evil humans, but not the evil of abortions.
Reactions To Incredibles III Abortion and Teen Pregnancy
According to official statements, “Abortion and teen pregnancy is a touchy subject. However, we feel it’s necessary to tackle it in one of our films. The Incredibles III is the perfect outlet as it shows how loving and supportive a family can be during this tough decision. While it may seem controversial, it’s important to show that women have a choice.”
As you might imagine, the Pro-Life crowd is not happy with this movie. They state that this is clearly abortion propaganda for kids and they are forcing this down their throat. Not only should abortion not be legal, it certainly shouldn’t be put in a Disney and Pixar movie made for kids. They claim that this is a disgusting move by Disney and that everyone should boycott them.
Of course, on the other side of the fence, the Pro-Choice crowd is happy for Violet. They understand that she was put in a tough position and shouldn’t have to care for the clump of cells inside her body. After all, it’s her body, her choice. A Disney film is the perfect place for a sensitive topic to be addressed with kids in a family-friendly way.
