The Walt Disney Company is putting inclusivity at the top of its agenda. They want to appeal more to people who don’t watch their movies over parents and children. This is why they now have Furry Days, men can be Disney princesses, and Elsa marrying a woman in Frozen 3. Disney is taking arguably the boldest approach yet by making Moana the first ever transgender Disney Princess.

As the years go on, Disney continues to push the boundaries. They take risks and see how the public reacts. However, Disney has been struggling. They keep releasing films that flop. This can be attributed to a few things. First, they used AI to write movies, which we reported on here. Second, pushing a social agenda on parents who don’t want that for their kids. That’s what Disney is doing again by making Moana the first transgender Disney princess.

Moana Transitions to a Man in Moana 2: Rise of Kai

The movie Moana is all about Moana overcoming many challenges. However, in the movie, she is always struggling to find and understand her identity. She screams this to the audience in the popular song “How Far I’ll Go”. Some of those lines include, “I can lead with pride, I can make us strong. I’ll be satisfied if I play along. But the voice inside sings a different song. What is wrong with me?”

Essentially this song is a metaphor for Moana wanting to transition from a girl to a boy. If you dig through more of the song, you will see the same thing. In Moana 2, she finally makes the transition. According to an internal source, in this new Disney movie, as the Chief and Wayfinder, Moana still isn’t happy. She teams up with Maui again to find her true self. She encounters many challenges along the way that test her mental strength and emotions.

In the middle of the movie, Moana begins her transition to male. She chooses her new name to be Kai, which means Sea in many Polynesian languages. This fits well because Moana means ocean in those same languages. Throughout the rest of the movie, Kai shares his new male identity with his family and friends on the island. However, the island is “transphobic”, causing her many mental health issues.

Reaction to Moana Becoming a Man, Kai

At the end of Moana 2: Rise of Kai, the village learns to accept Kai for who he is. They fix their bigoted mindset and fully embrace Moana as Kai. However, the real world doesn’t seem to be as accepting. Upon hearing the breaking news that Moana will be a male named Kai in Moana 2, there have been a lot of negative reactions.

Many parents state that they are tired of Disney “indoctrinating” their kids with “trans propaganda”. Many of them are saying this is the last straw for Disney and will be canceling their Disney+ subscriptions and no longer visiting their homeless-infested theme parks. They have finally had enough of Disney and claim this could be the end of the mouse forever like how Dylan Mulvaney destroyed Bud Light.

But, there are people who support this decision by Disney. They are so excited that Disney is finally making a prominent character transgender. However, they are upset it took this long. They see this as a crucial step for Disney to promote inclusivity, especially for such a marginalized community. However, they are disappointed in how many people reacted negatively to this news.
