Breaking news, Disneyland is doubling the size of the castle. It’s well-known that Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland is extremely small.
In fact, you can barely see it from the start or end of Main Street USA. It’s only 77 feet tall currently, but after the renovation, it will be 150 feet tall. Sleeping Beauty Castle will still be the shortest castle of all the Disney parks, but you will at least be able to see it now.
On top of the doubling in height, they will also double its width and depth. The reason they are doing this is because Disney wants their castles to be iconic, and 77 feet is not iconic at all.
Doubling the size will give it a much greater presence and make it feel more magical. As part of this project, they are even considering painting it black instead of white to feel more fitting and accurate.
As you might imagine, almost everyone supports this decision. The only people who don’t consider themselves Disneyland purists and don’t want to see any changes. However, most people think this is a great idea because the castle needs improvement.
It’s so small, and doubling it only makes it more impressive. It’s also still Sleeping Beauty Castle, so not much is changing. It’s better than changing it to a Spirit Halloween, like at Disney World, which we reported on here.
