Have you ever gone to a self-checkout, scanned your groceries, paid, and been asked to leave a tip? If so, you’re not alone. Every year, tens of millions of consumers are guilted into leaving tips. Sometimes it’s to robots, while other times it may be to lazy employees. Tipping culture is getting out of hand and Disney is piling onto it with the addition of tip jars to all Disney World rides.

The Disney parks are all about monetizing and making money off of their guests. For example, requiring all guests to wear uniforms, which they are selling for a crazy price. We also saw this here with them adding advertisements to their rides. The newest way they are trying to extort their guests is by adding tip jars to all rides.
Disney World Tip Jars on Rides
Everywhere you go, you get asked for a tip. From the robots we mentioned earlier to the employees at restaurants where you order the food, pick it up, and the cashier does nothing. The tipping pandemic is invading every bit of life. Now, it’s coming to Disney World, with the addition of tip jars on all their rides. This is worse than the toll booths being installed inside Disney World.

The new tip jars are located at the entrances and exits for every single ride at Disney World. Of course, it’s 2023, so all of these tip jars are virtual. Essentially, Disney has an iPad set up at each of these locations. When guests enter or exit a line, they must scan their MagicBand. Then they are asked if they would like to leave a tip on the iPad. Any tips will be charged to the credit card linked to their My Disney Experience app.
Guests can select an automatic $10, $15, or $20 tip. They can also enter a custom tip if they would like. If they prefer not to tip, there is a no-tip option hidden at the bottom of the screen. Essentially Disney is forcing all guests to either tip the cast members or decline it right in front of their faces. They won’t let any guests walk past the tip jar without scanning their magic band. This is a great way to sucker people into leaving tips before and after riding their favorite Disney rides.
The Disney Tip Jar Controversy
As you might imagine Disney adding virtual tip jars to their rides has created a lot of buzz. First off, many people are opposed to this. They argue that they are already paying hundreds of dollars a day to enjoy the parks and they shouldn’t be required to tip on top of that. They also suggest this will make the lines longer and choke up the exits by stopping everyone and asking for a tip.

On the other hand, many people support this notion. It’s worth noting that prior to this, Disney Cast Members could not accept tips. Only a few employees could accept tips, like waiters and waitresses in select restaurants. The supporters suggest that Disney Cast Members don’t make nearly enough to live off of and that it is good they can finally be tipped for their hard work.
Those in favor also argue that Disney Cast Members go above and beyond, unlike many other places that accept tips. They say if anyone deserves a tip, it’s Disney employees. Many people also suggest that if you don’t want to tip, just politely decline. While that sounds easy in theory, we expect many people to be frustrated by the panhandling before and after every ride and it will likely cause some issues between guests and Cast Members.
