In the year 2023, anything can be problematic and cause unwarranted anxiety and stress to an individual. This extends to comedians, movies, and yes, even Disney rides. While one person may think a Disney World ride is harmless and fun, another person may see it as a triggering experience. It’s because of this that Disney will now add “trigger warnings” to many of their rides.

It’s hard to do something that doesn’t offend a group of people. For example, a lot of people lost their minds with the announcement that all guests would be required to wear pronoun pins inside Disney World. On the other hand, some were offended by the announcement that the racist jokes are returning to the Jungle Cruise. It’s hard to tiptoe around all of the sensitivities, which is why Disney is adding trigger warnings to their rides.

Problematic Disney World Rides

By now, you are probably well aware that some Disney rides are seen as problematic. For example, Peter Pan’s Flight is set to be replaced with Up Spirit of Adventure. This is due to the Native American scenes on the ride. Jungle Cruise also has its fair share of “problems”. Of course, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train has dwarfs, which is why Disney is going to remove them. This is just beginning to scratch the surface.

Remember Splash Mountain? That entire ride is being removed because a few people were offended by a movie they’ve never watched. Luckily, Universal Studios acquired the rights to the ride and will build it in Islands of Adventure, which we reported on here. Don’t even get us started on how offensive rides like Soarin’ and Tower of Terror can be to certain people.

Clearly, there are a lot of Disney rides that offend people for a variety of reasons. However, getting rid of these rides isn’t typically feasible or practical to do. Instead, Disney is adding trigger warning signs at the entrance of many of their rides. The goal of this is to warn people ahead of time and mitigate complaints.

Disney World Ride Trigger Warnings

Disney is adding trigger warnings to their rides as a way to warn people before they get in line that the ride may be seen as problematic. The language will vary by ride, but it will follow a structure like this. “This ride includes negative depictions and/or mistreatments of people or cultures. These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now.”

The trigger warning later goes on to say, “Rather than removing the ride, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it, and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together.” The text goes on, but that’s the gist of the trigger warning for Disney rides. Much like the safety warning signs, the trigger warnings will be posted on signs at the entrances to the rides requiring a trigger warning.

While adding a trigger warning before many Disney rides isn’t problematic, it’s certainly generating a lot of buzz. In fact, many people are mocking Disney for adding these warnings to rides. It’s very similar to the reaction we saw when Disney added them to their movies. Many people are pointing out that Disney is merely virtue signaling. They claim that if Disney really saw it as problematic, they would remove the rides and movies. However, they are making money from them, which is more important.
