Disney is all about advancing technology. For example, they filed for a mind-controlling patent, which we reported on here. Also, adding facial recognition to their parks to enhance your experience and spy on you. These are a bit invasive but are all intended to enhance the guest experience. Meanwhile, the self-driving strollers will enhance the guest experience, but won’t be nearly as invasive.

Stoller Problems at Disney World

What is the worst part of Disney World? The answer is clearly Disney adding virtual tip jars to their rides, which we reported on here. The panhandling is off the charts. However, the second worst thing is strollers. In fact, they get so much flack that Disney is implementing stroller-free Sundays, which we reported on here. Luckily, the annoyance of strollers should be resolved with the new self-driving strollers coming to Disney World.

Oftentimes the issues with strollers inside Disney World comes down to incompetent drivers. In fact, every year, thousands of people are injured by strollers inside Disney World. However, this is usually due to the driver not paying attention and running into ankles or over the feet of other guests. This is extremely dangerous and has been a problem for decades.

The other issue with strollers is they can be rather taxing on the adults using them. Pushing around one or two children the entire day is exhausting and difficult. Making the strollers self-driving takes a lot of stress off of the parents using them. Now they don’t have to use extra effort to push the strollers and can have a slightly more relaxing trip. With self-driving strollers, everyone wins, but how do they work?

The new self-driving strollers will cost $500 per day to rent one of these. Guests will connect the stroller to their My Disney Experience app. Then, they will plug in the location they want to go to. The stroller will do the rest of the work for them. It will automatically find the fastest route to that location and drive itself there. The technology in the stroller is designed to avoid running into people and has a 99% chance of not running into anyone.

However, it’s worth noting that the adults need to be within 5 feet of the stroller in order for it to keep moving. This is done using Bluetooth technology between the stroller and the parent’s My Disney Experience app. Disney is implementing this to avoid the stroller driving away from the parents and getting the kids lost in Disney World.

Overall, people are excited about these new self-driving strollers. Guests who don’t have kids are relieved that the parks will be safer. Meanwhile, those with kids are excited that their lives got way easier with not needing to push a stroller around all day. In fact, the eco-friendly crowd is also excited because these strollers run on electricity instead of gasoline.
