Mickey Mouse debuts new drag queen costume. Earlier today, Mickey was seen in a brand-new costume. He was walking around in Disney World as Mickey Blouse, a drag queen.
This is an effort by Disney to highlight drag culture and make it more mainstream. In fact, this is not their first time getting into drag. We reported here on drag queens playing Disney Princesses in the parks as well. However, turning their beloved mascot into a drag queen is an entirely new level and is quite controversial.
It’s worth noting that Mickey Mouse as a drag queen also has a few different costumes. Mickey is known for his various costumes and Disney wants to keep that true for Mickey Blouse as well.
Drag queen Mickey will appear in meet and greets at the Theater on Main Street USA as well as appear in parades. An inside source has even suggested that Mickey may appear as a drag queen in Fantasmic in the near future.
However, as you might imagine not everyone loves this idea. In fact, many people are considering boycotting Disney over this decision. They state that kids should not be exposed to drag queens at Disney World, especially when it’s Mickey Mouse. Meanwhile, others are excited to see Disney getting into drag.
They think that choosing Mickey Mouse to be a drag queen shows the world how great drag can be and the cultural importance it plays in this country.
