Disney World is now requiring a driver’s education course in order to use mobility (ECV) scooters. This is due to the huge increase in foot and ankle injuries in the parks.

In fact, mobility scooters are the leading cause of injury at Disney World. It was just a year ago that a man was seriously injured after being run over by one of these scooters. Surprisingly, they are more dangerous than losing your hands on Space Mountain.

Now all guests who want to use an ECV scooter will be required to pass a driver’s ed course. This course consists of multiple stops and turns. This is to test their driving skills and ability to maneuver around objects.

It also tests their ability to back up onto a Disney bus, which is one of the more challenging feats. On top of that, there will be a written exam to test their knowledge. This course can be taken either at Disney World or at an official Disney-approved location.

Upon passing the written and driving test, you will be provided with a license. This shows that you are a certified mobility scooter driver, which you need to present in order to enter Disney World and use a scooter.

Disney may require driver's education for strollers, unless it's self-driving

So far Disney is just rolling this out for electric scooters, however, many people are expecting this to be implemented for guests with strollers as well, unless it’s one of their self-driving strollers.
