Anyone who takes a trip to Disney World and doesn’t complain about their feet hurting didn’t have the full experience. In fact, Disney even launched a training course here to get you ready for your trip. For those who don’t want to train for their trip and their feet hurt, Disney has a solution. Chairs and benches are now being installed in Disney World lines.

Disney is always innovating when it comes to lines. In fact, Disney is widely known and respected as leaders when it comes to queues. Lines are so prominent there that Disney even announced “The Line”, which is an attraction that is just waiting in a line. Disney is bringing new innovations to their lines with the addition of chairs.

Disney Adds Chairs to Their Lines

The average Disney guest puts on 20,000 steps per day at Disney World. Meanwhile, the average American walks only 4,000 steps per day. That means that at Disney World, people are taking five times the number of steps they would on a normal day. This takes a toll on many people, especially if they aren’t used to it. On top of that, you are standing for 80-90% of the day. This is primarily done when waiting in lines.

Disney knows how tolling this can be to their guests, which is why they announced that they will be adding chairs to their lines. These chairs will be scattered throughout many of the lines inside Disney World. They will be attached to the walls and support posts along the lines. This is a way to allow guests to sit down and rest a little bit while waiting in line for their favorite rides.

In typical Disney fashion, the chairs and benches added in the lines will be themed to each attraction. For example, in Space Mountain, the chairs will look like chairs in a rocket. Meanwhile, the chairs in the Tower of Terror queue will look like antique chairs straight out of the 1939 Hollywood Tower Hotel. Many guests are excited about this announcement. It gives them a chance to relax in line, however, some see potential problems.

Disney World Line Chair Concerns

While the announcement of Disney adding chairs and benches to their lines is overall positive, there are some legitimate concerns. We had a world-renowned queue expert weigh in on this decision. They mentioned that this may cause the lines to be slower. As soon as the line moves, people will need to stand up and move with it. Our expert suggests that many people will not keep up with the line because they enjoy sitting too much.

We all know Disney is all about keeping up with the party in front of you to minimize the wait time. These chairs are expected to do the opposite and cause a bullwhip effect where the line gets really long because people are no longer moving at a constant flow, rather it will be broken up by people sitting down and standing up. However, there is a much larger issue.

Many people are expecting huge brawls in Disney lines over these chairs. People love to fight over silly things at Disney, like a popcorn bucket. It’s likely we are going to see a ton of fights over the chairs in the lines. People are going to be desperate to sit down and there aren’t going to be a lot of places to sit. This is going to lead to many fights and scuffles in the lines for the limited seating. However, if these problems don’t arise, these chairs will be a much-needed addition to the lines at Disney World.
